Our Story

Square One (we’re still not at the candles yet)

We have to admit: the world has lost its sensible balance (if it ever had one to begin with), and the human soul is burning in a tense frenzy while desperately craving peace. It’s a strange everyday paradox: feverish effort followed by empty, meaningless idleness.

Holidays and resting are no longer about relaxing; they've become just another endurance test. The anxiety that time is slipping through our fingers follows us like constant background noise. We can’t change this global chaos either (though we really wish we could), but this is exactly where we come into the picture.

Two sisters, one brain - mostly (still not talking about candles)

Behind PØURPØUR are the two of us: Orsi and Zsófi. (Not the Three Sisters, and thankfully not Chekhovian, though the dramatic exhaustion is occasionally there.) Our childhood wasn't about tablets; we received genuine attention and support to unfold our talents. We studied instrumental music, dance, and singing. We are passionate about fine arts and classical music, and we spent a lot of time in nature and in the kitchen. Although we certainly didn't inherit our manual dexterity from our parents, we received boundless encouragement in creative endeavors, and we experimented quite a bit.

Our answer to the noise (the candle story is really coming together now – hang in there!)

We often find ourselves balancing on the edge of burnout, but we’ve learned to accept our own weaknesses and imperfections with dry humor. This liberating self-irony is what PØURPØUR pours into molds (literally).

We don’t claim to hold the philosopher’s stone. A candle won’t solve your life, it won’t answer your emails, and it won’t save the world. But it can help get you through the rough patches. Our candles are not just design objects, and their names are no accident. They are about life situations we have personally experienced, for which pure plant-based wax, a crackling wooden wick, and a complex scent profile are the best mental band-aid. Because one of our most important ingredients is sarcasm.

Division of labor (or who holds the fort?)

Even though our degrees are completely different, our core values and aesthetic standards are exactly the same. This makes PØURPØUR a surprisingly smooth collaboration, and more importantly: it allows us to spend more time together. We create this alongside our "classic" day jobs: Orsi runs the business side, while Zsófi supports it as a creative partner. It simply wouldn't work without each other.

So what is this? (please have a little more patience for this)

We didn’t start this to help you "find yourself." We don’t deny reality; we just help make it more bearable. No clichés, no "live-laugh-love" energy—just high-fidelity scents for those who, like us, know that harmony isn't a given right, but something you have to actively work for. And on this journey, a single match and a good scent can be enough to get you started.
