How to Make Your Home Smell Like a Luxury Hotel

Walk into a beautiful hotel and you may notice it immediately. The lighting is soft, the air smells clean, everything feels calm and polished.

It can be tempting to think the secret is simply: Expensive perfume pumped into the air. But the effect is usually more layered than that.

Scent is only one part of the experience

A luxury atmosphere works because several sensory details agree with each other: soft lighting, clean spaces, quiet, temperature, textures and fragrance.

A candle can contribute to that atmosphere because it combines two sensory cues at once: scent and warm light.

Choose the mood first

Instead of asking: “What smells luxurious?”
ask: “What kind of luxury do I want?”
Fresh and minimal? Try citrus, green or airy notes.
Warm and sophisticated? Think woods, amber, musk or soft vanilla.

Don't make the fragrance compete with the room
